Purgatory- Word of the Day

Purgatory
-from the Latin word purgatorium
The process (and hence the place) in which, according to Roman Catholicism, the souls of the saved are purified for entrance to heaven. According to Catholic doctrine, a justified person can die with unpardoned venial ("forgivable") sins which must be paid for before entrance to heaven. This takes place in purgatory. Purgatory is described as a place of fire and pain. One of the chief uses for indulgences in Martin Luther's day was to shorten the time a loved one must spend in purgatory.
